This volunteer opportunity would be a great way to network with artists and the community and be part of a couple of great events in the Parkdale area. QUEEN WEST ART CRAWL (Sept 12,13,14) 5 volunteers needed The Queen West Art Crawl is scheduled for Sept 12, 13, 14 where over 200 juried artists will be housed in Trinity Bellwoods Park selling their crafts. The festival also includes performance art and art installations that will fill the streets of Parkdale for two days. A new program from VON Peel! The SMART Program! The SMART Program is a gentle exercise program for older adults. It is designed to improve ability to participate in activities of daily living and thereby help to maintain independence. This program offers a structured fitness class within your community. The class is instructed by Volunteer leaders certified by the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging (CCAA). Statistically significant improvements in functional fitness after just 16 weeks of participation. Strengthening Capacity for physical and social well-being. Minimal cost of $2 per lesson. VON PEEL seeks volunteers for the Volunteer Visiting, Congregate Dining, Driving, Mental Health Program, Office help, Event planning and for Fundraising. At present, we are in need of Congregate Dining program volunteers. Congregate Dining is a social time for seniors to join together over a hot, nutritious, tasty lunch. We are seeking volunteers to transport seniors to this lunch every Monday in Meadowvale area. Volunteer are also required in the Clarkson area on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for Transportation. An Orientation and Training are provided to all volunteers. If you are caring, cheerful, committed and would like to volunteer with VON’s Congregate Dining program, we would love to hear from you. VON PEEL seeks volunteers for the Volunteer Visiting, Congregate Dining, Driving, Mental Health Program, Office help, Event planning and for Fundraising. At this time, we require volunteers for Visiting Program for day, evening and weekend visits. Volunteers are matched with seniors living in the Brampton and Mississauga area. Weekly visits are arranged to help decrease the loneliness and isolation of seniors. Volunteers can go for walks, play cards, and go out for a coffee, tea, shop or just talk. A variety of languages speaking male/female volunteers needed. We need females who speak Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Pilipino, Russian, Arabic, Vietnamese, Farsi, Hungarian, Croatian, Turkish, Italian, English and Polish, and Males who speak Italian, Tagalog, Slovenian, Spanish, German, Portuguese, and Cantonese. Orientation and Training is provided to all Volunteers. This is a fantastic way to give back to the community and support a lonely senior. VON - Peel - The Telephone Reassurance Program

The Telephone Reassurance Program is a free service from VON Community Support Department, maintained by volunteers who make daily telephone calls and periodic home visits to seniors who live alone in the Peel area. The volunteers check on the client's well being and provide a connection that helps prevent social isolation. If the volunteer feels that his/her client has further needs, he or she contacts the community support service department team, which in turn assists the client in obtaining appropriate services. VON is looking for volunteers for this program. If you feel you can help. These calls can be done from anywhere, one or two hours a week is all that is needed. VON Peel seeks volunteers for the SMART (Seniors Maintaining Active Roles Together) program, a gentle exercise program for older adults. As a volunteer you will be certified as an instructor by the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging (CCAA) after completing the Seniors Fitness Instructor Course (SFIC). Orientation and training in First Aid are provided. As a SMART volunteer you will instruct the Group and/ or In-Home exercise program. The program is designed to improve ones ability to participate in activities of daily living and affords older adults the opportunity to attend structured fitness classes within the community. VON Peel offers a program of delivering volunteer visiting to seniors with mental health issues. This program is designed to strengthen the capacity of seniors who have been diagnosed with long-term mental health issues to become self-sufficient and enables them to remain in their own homes. We are looking for Volunteers to offer support and social interaction to isolated seniors. This program requires that Volunteers are at least 18 years of age; previous experience in mental health would be ideal but is not necessary as you will be provided with extensive training and free education sessions that will enable you to meet client’s needs. We are looking for volunteers that are caring, cheerful, reliable, sensitive, non-judgmental, consistent, and patient. CFI ONTARIO IS HIRING A PART TIME CENTRE & FIELD ORGANIZER Position starts mid July. Deadline to apply: Monday, July 7 The Centre for Inquiry is an international education and outreach organization dedicated to promoting and advancing reason, science, secular ethics and freedom of inquiry in all areas of human endeavour. We engage in educational lectures, debates and conferences, coordinate 30 campus freethought groups across Canada, run a robust series of secular humanist social and community services, and undertake advocacy defending church-state separation, the integrity of science and equality rights for non-believers. The new CFI Ontario is CFI’s first location in Canada and our nation’s premiere venue for secular humanists, skeptics and freethinkers. RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is two-fold: 1. The successful candidate will act as an assistant director at CFI Canada headquarters in Toronto. He/she will lead CFI Ontario’s in-house and ongoing programming, event planning and hosting, promotions, newsletter publishing, social services, campus outreach and membership committees. There will be numerous leadership opportunities through support staff and volunteer recruitment, training, supervision and delegation. 2. CFI’s Canadian operations have recently expanded with the launching of new Communities in Montreal and Calgary and the anticipated launch of a Community of Vancouver in the next few months. The successful candidate will provide organizing assistance to our new CFI Communities in Canada.
